Our gifts help preserve the planet for future generations
More than $3 million invested to protect the environment
Tellabs, the Tellabs Foundation and employees are taking steps toward a greener future. Environmental organizations lead the way:
Preserve and restore land
- Tellabs Foundation funding helps The Nature Conservancy protect grassland preserves in California, Texas and Illinois.
- The Wetlands Initiative has a grant from the Tellabs Foundation to help restore the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie's wetland, prairie and stream habitats. Employee volunteers spent a day planting native plants along the creek.
Reduce waste
- A Tellabs Foundation grant helped open a new Habitat for Humanity ReStore. It recycles used and surplus household or construction materials. The effort keeps items out of the landfill, and proceeds benefit Habitat's work to provide safe, affordable housing.
- UCP of Greater Chicago recycles and repairs computers for students with disabilities. In just one year, the program recycled more than 350 tons of e-waste and provided computers to nearly 4,000 students.
Teach ways to care for the environment
- The Chicago Zoological Society leads a regional effort to help people keep the Great Lakes watershed healthy. Using an exhibit and portal, "My Water Footprint," shows how our behaviors affect the watershed. It will reach an estimated 40 million visitors.
- Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre invites visitors to explore one of the United Kingdom's largest inland reed beds. A Tellabs Foundation grant helped the center host a community event.
