New Tellabs high density port shelf packs more punch
Newest port shelf increases cross-connect capacity while saving money, space and energy

NXTcomm08, LAS VEGAS — With the explosion of video and wireless traffic, service providers must squeeze even more capacity out of their networks. Thanks to the new high-density (HD) 384 port shelf on the Tellabs® 5500 Digital Cross-Connect System, service providers can save money and floor space, while easily increasing capacity.

The HD384 port shelf enables service providers to obtain 32 times the port densities of older Tellabs 5500 Digital Cross-Connect Systems. It also makes the system more energy efficient.

More capacity, less charge
In exactly the same amount of room in the rack, the HD384 port shelf delivers 400 percent more capacity than the current HD96 port shelf. In addition, each circuit of the new port shelf sips its power sparingly. Each one uses up to 80% less energy than previous circuits. So service providers get more capacity for less energy.

Its capacity's huge, and it's easy to use
The HD384 port shelf is easy to integrate into existing networks. The shelf connects to all Tellabs 5500 systems and can coexist with previous deployed versions of the shelf on the same rack. So it can be deployed easily, without any loss of service or changes to other equipment. The HD384 port shelf also makes it economical to modernize existing networks, especially when replacing the standard density optical port shelves.

"Our customers require a high-density optical port shelf that saves money and floor space," said Brian McConnell, vice president and general manager of bandwidth management solutions for Tellabs. "The new HD384 port shelf delivers by greatly increasing capacity and using less electricity per circuit, making it a great solution for existing and new customers."

The Tellabs 5500 digital cross-connect system is an integral part of many service provider networks. The capacity-raising HD384 port shelf will begin making networks greener and leaner in August 2008.
