Award-winning Tellabs and Verizon make a dynamic team
Dynamic Optical Network wins Innovation award
High Wycombe, UK – Communications network specialists Tellabs and North American service provider Verizon Communications won a prestigious Global Telecoms Business Innovation award. Tellabs and Verizon won the award for the world’s first nationwide Dynamic Optical Network, rolled out across the USA.
The network, serving more than 2 million residential users and hundreds of enterprises, takes several network layers and collapses them into a single platform, making it cost effective and simple for Verizon to deploy new services, quickly and easily. This network was deployed in less than 30 months and consists of over 1,700 nodes, the largest ROADM network in the world.
Based on the Tellabs® 7100 Optical Transport System, the network has a capacity of 600Tbs, and has delivered many benefits to Verizon and its customers, including:
• 95% reduction in service activation times,
• 75% reduction in installation costs, and
• More than 50% reduction in power consumption.
