Take Your Network Security to Another Level with Panorama PON Manager
One of the many appealing features of Tellabs’ Optical LAN is our Panorama PON Manager that provides a centralized intelligence and element management system across the entire LAN. Scalability Builds a Stronger and Better Network
Last month, we discussed the simplicity of our Panorama PON Manager. As the cornerstone of our Optical LAN solution, this management system has another coveted feature important to our customers – scalability. Last month, we discussed the simplicity of our Panorama PON Manager. As the cornerstone of our Optical LAN solution, this management system has another coveted feature important to our customers – scalability Our PON Manager’s scalability can be seen on many levels. To start, the PON Manager is ideal for any network size and companies large and small. It works with Solaris-based and Windows-based options, supports virtualized Windows environments and can also be accessed via a web browser in Windows. To simplify it even further, the PON Manager also offers remote access options, so our customers can easily monitor the network and quickly make moves, adds or changes (MACs) from their laptops, tablets or iPads. In fact, one of our customers, Deltek, stated that they saved 50 hours a week in IT staff time by achieving faster MACs with our PON manager. Additionally, the IT staff can scale their network with confidence by creating templates and profiles that can be distributed locally, regionally and even internationally. This enables process consistency and underlying policy consistency to assure tight operation and security controls. However, scalability is not just a feature of the PON Manager – it can be seen across our entire Optical LAN system. For example, did you know that our product portfolio features the world’s smallest ONT? Our Mini ONTs can easily be installed in small spaces, including in cubicles, on walls or in raceways of work environments. Just like the PON Manager, Tellabs’ equipment can easily fit the needs of any company. Scalability is a critical piece of why our customers choose our Optical LAN solution over copper-based LANs. For example, read how our solution helped Miles & Stockbridge achieve their goals. For more information about our PON Manager, click here.

Optical LAN: A Critical Piece of a Library's Technological Innovation
When Illinois’ Aurora Public Library first decided to build its new main library, they knew from the get-go their network had to be built around a technology that was both simple and scalable. With digital learning on the rise, they needed a technology backbone that could support its community’s network needs today and in the future. The only solution that met all of the library’s goals was an Optical LAN network. [More]

Eliminate the Complexity and Choose Optical LAN for a Simpler, Converged Campus Network
Across the education industry, the need for high-bandwidth, high-performance solutions has never been more critical. Our recent presentation at a GAMEIS event is proof – K-12 school districts feel network pains as they continue to digitize their classrooms. But, this is an issue for college campuses too, as they struggle to support growing number of connected devices. [More]

The Smart Answer to a Simple Question: How to Improve Your Network?
I recently participated in a panel for the inaugural Lightwave Optical Innovation Summit, where experts from the networking space discussed the role fiber should play in future local area networks (LANs) and why. With all the wired and wireless critical services that relies on a strong network connection, it’s clear that there’s growing excitement about where Optical LAN fits in the networking landscape. The Simple Solution to Your Network Management Challenges
What drives our customers to seek an alternative to the traditional, copper-based LAN? To start, for many, network management is a time-consuming process that requires IT staff to physically travel across a campus - or even a city - to make moves, adds and changes (MAC) to the network at a specific telecom closet. Imagine what it would be like if the IT manager didn’t have to do that and could manage the entire network from the comfort of his or her desk. [More]

Optical LAN Steals the Show at HITEC 2014
HITEC 2014, the world’s largest hospitality technology event, wrapped up two weeks ago and we’re still feeling the buzz. With hotels and resorts under pressure to keep pace with evolving network infrastructure needs, it comes as no surprise that Optical LAN stood out as the right solution to this challenge. In fact, a major international hotelier was heavily promoting Optical LAN at HITEC. This sparked interest amongst other hoteliers, property owners, service providers and a wide range HITEC attendees that wanted to know what the buzz was all about. So - what is it about fiber optics, or Optical LAN, that gets everyone excited? [More]

Is Your Network Healthy Enough to Meet HIPAA Criteria?
A recent HIMSS survey found that one of the 3 key concerns for hospitals is ensuring patient information security. This goes hand in hand with HIPAA requirements that put enormous responsibilities on healthcare facilities to secure patient data. As hospitals adapt to meet these requirements, they may not be aware that network infrastructure can help meet the goal. Specifically, hospitals can make their local area networks (LANs) more secure. Offset the Cost of DAS with Optical LAN
From airports to sports stadiums, through college and healthcare campuses, to hotels, resorts and large enterprises, guests and employees expect reliable wireless coverage. To improve the capacity and coverage of their 3G and 4G/LTE networks to keep end users satisfied, these facilities have been relying on distributed antenna systems (DAS) technology. But, a DAS network is expensive to install, with facility owners arguing it’s not their responsibility to pay for it. Enter Optical LAN. [More]

Transforming Hotel Networks with Fiber Optics at HITEC 2014
HITEC 2014, the world’s largest hospitality technology event, is around the corner. With presentations from industry experts and innovative solutions on display, we will be showcasing our Tellabs Optical LAN solution. Hotel networks are continuously evolving. They must not only meet their guests’ connectivity needs, but also support future data, voice and video services with their associated bandwidth needs. Traditionally, hotels have relied on copper-based local area networks (LANs) to support these services. However, copper networks offer limited bandwidth, requiring constant infrastructure upgrades. The better solution is fiber optics-based Optical LAN. [More]

Optical LAN and Wi-Fi: Friends, not Foes
In the midst of the BYOD and Internet of Things era, corporate LANs are being tested by the sheer number of wireless devices and their associated bandwidth needs like never before. On top if this, it’s not just the tablets and smartphones. Modern Wi-Fi networks must also support building security, automation and environmental controls. That’s no small feat. [More]

The Answer to HIMSS' Healthcare IT challenges? Upgrade the Network!
The 2014 HIMSS Leadership Survey found that the top three priorities for the healthcare industry are information security, leveraging IT to improve clinical care and financial viability. The industry has lacked one solution that can address all of these challenges – until now.  The solution is to upgrade a hospital’s technology backbone – aka the local area network (LAN). Traditionally based on old, legacy copper-based networking, hospitals are now turning to fiber optics, or Optical LAN, to meet current and future IT needs. In line with the findings of the HIMSS survey, Optical LAN is: [More]

Law Firm Execs Future-Proof their Network with Optical LAN
After spending 80 years in the same building, Baltimore-based law firm Miles & Stockbridge recently moved into a prestigious downtown building. While the physical move of employees and equipment can be a beast of its own, there was another major challenge that the move created. It was critical for the new space to have a network infrastructure in place to support the firm’s high-bandwidth applications, like high-speed Voice of IP (VoIP) and video and data connections - for all eight floors of its offices. There could be no disruption to business, all systems had to operate seamlessly throughout the project. [More]
