This blended solution consists of four web-based modules that will familiarize participants with Tellabs 5500 system architecture, specifically the hardware, backplane, and cabling requirements. Participants need to enroll in all following four modules to complete the training for Tellabs 5500 System Architecture, FP 10.1:
- Administrative Complex
- Network Complex
- Port Complex
- High Density 96 (HD-96) Port Complex

After taking this course the participants should be able to:
- Identify the function of the hardware comprising the Administrative Complex, Port Complex, and Network Complex
- Identify the function of the Administrative Complex backplane connections, including cabling and administrative links
- Recall the relationship between administrative links and channels
- Recognize the function of the network shelf backplane connections
- Identify the correct Network Complex cabling
- Recall the cross-connect signal flow through the Network Complex
- Identify a diagram showing synchronous timing signal flow
- Recall Network Complex Redundancy
- Describe the different pieces of common equipment on the Tellabs 5500
- Identify the purpose of the DS1/1, DD DS1, DS3, and STS-1E Port Interface Equipment
- Identify the purpose of the OC-3 & OC-12 Optical Port Interface Equipment
- Describe the common equipment required for the HD-96
- Describe the equipment and function of the SONET Port Shelf, Narrowband Port Shelf, VQE Port Shelf, and Ethernet Port Shelf
This course includes quizzes and an assessment check.
