Service Provider

First best choice to collapse, converge and connect your access network. For all network modernization projects, Tellabs Broadband solutions supports legacy analog services onto systems that are fully capable for DSL, PON and Ethernet connectivity.

Industry’s only fiber-fed IP-enabled digital loop carrier

Service providers still manage a large embedded base of copper cabling connecting analog services. The service providers have a strong desire to install fiber-based IP services, but there are no new service revenue opportunities to justify the network upgrade expense. Further aggravating the situation is the dilemma where service providers have a duty to deliver services that lack a positive business case. Meanwhile the decades-old copper-based analog service equipment are being manufacturer discontinued. This leads to the fact that service providers struggle to continue to deliver services within the confines of their existing infrastructure and equipment.

Tellabs Broadband enables telecommunications service providers collapse, converge and connect their access networks in a cost effective manner that leverages existing approved equipment and infrastructure. The Tellabs 1000 MSAP is a true multi-service access platform and supports all technologies such as PON (G-PON or 10G XGS-PON), Ethernet, DSL, TDM and ATM. It is the industry’s only fiber-fed IP-enabled digital loop carrier – supporting both optical Ethernet and analog special circuits from the same platform – ideal for any and all network transformation projects.

Key Benefits for Service Providers’ Network Modernization Projects

Maximizes Access Network Connectivity

The Tellabs 1000 Multiservice Access Platform (MSAP) provides Ethernet uplinks, Ethernet inter-nodal transport and Ethernet service delivery while continuing to support revenue-generating Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) services and transport. This rare combination in a MSAP affords the Tellabs 1000 the distinction of being the best low-cost choice to collapse, converge and connect any service provider access network.

High-Speed Internet Services

Targeted at both PON and DSL subscribers within the reach of the CO and outside the reach of the CO, the Tellabs 1000 MSAP can serve 100% of potential broadband subscribers in urban, suburban and rural markets while utilizing existing backhaul facilities. When Tellabs 1000 MSAP integrated IP/Ethernet solutions are coupled with its G-PON, 10G XGS-PON, VDSL2 and ADSL2+ service delivery capabilities, there exists the added benefit of saving power relative to the 1 RU “pizza box” DSLAM overlay options. In fact, in a direct comparison between upgrade versus overlay, service providers deploying the Tellabs 1000 can experience as much as 70% less power consumption by upgrading versus overlaying the network.

Flexible Transport And Uplink Options

The Tellabs 1000 MSAP supports a wide variety of inter-terminal transport and network uplinks, including copper, optical, Ethernet (10/100/1000 and 10 gigabit Ethernet), SONET/SDH, ATM, IMA transports. In particular, Tellabs 1000 MSAP Gigabit Ethernet (GbE222) and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE226) plug-in cards are a high-bandwidth, cost-effective Ethernet uplink, and Ethernet inter-terminal transport. The Ethernet cards support voice transport, Ethernet traffic aggregation for High-Speed Internet (HSI), IP Television (IPTV), business premises applications and cell site base station traffic backhaul.

Ethernet Enabled

Of special interest is the Tellabs 1000 MSAP ES 10/100 plug-in card, which can deliver Ethernet services to business premises, multi-dwelling premises and cell site base stations. ES 10/100 can be located in any of the multipurpose shelf slots. Used in conjunction with the Gigabit Ethernet (GbE222) and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE226) plug-in cards in transport and/or network uplink configurations, the Tellabs 1000 MSAP can deliver end-to-end Ethernet interfaces.

Unwavering Support For Legacy Services

Deploying Ethernet-centric services from a service provider’s embedded base of access equipment affords the opportunity to capture additional revenues from Ethernet business services and the wireless traffic backhaul from subtended cell tower base stations. However, do not lose sight that the Tellabs 1000 MSAP accomplishes this feat as it simultaneously supports legacy services, like ISDN, FAX, DID/DOD, 2-Wire/4-Wire, Pay Phone, E&M, TO and EBS. Thus, the Tellabs 1000 MSAP is unique in that it can support these next-generation IP/Ethernet initiatives without cannibalizing traditional TDM revenue sources.

Integrated Network Management

The Tellabs 1000 can be provisioned, tested and monitored using a UI and/or from a menu-driven software provisioning system accessible from any LET, RST or remote Telnet session. To further simplify provisioning and monitoring, the Tellabs Panorama Manager can be used. The Tellabs Panorama Manager is available in both Solaris and Windows operating environments, and offers a full suite of management capabilities like user management, configuration management, performance management and security managements.
