US Marine Corps to Deploy Tellabs for Unified Communications Upgrade

United States Marine Corps Systems Command chooses Tellabs Optical LAN for the modernization of its telecommunication network architecture and systems.

Dallas, Texas. January 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Tellabs, the leading provider of Passive Optical LAN (POL) solutions, announced that its Tellabs Optical LAN (OLAN) has been chosen by the Marine Corps Systems Command Network Communications Infrastructure (NCI) Program Office to modernize its existing network architecture to a high availability Unified Communications solution at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina. This installation will be the first fully Unified Capabilities (UC) IP-based network for the Marine Corps.

Unified Capabilities, as defined by the Department of Defense (DoD) Unified Capabilities Framework (UCF) and the Department of Navy (DoN), is “the integration of voice, video, and/or data services delivered ubiquitously across a secure and highly available network infrastructure, independent of technology, to provide increased mission effectiveness to the warfighter and business communities.” The project is part of an ongoing effort by the Marines to improve command, control, communications, computing and intelligence (C4I) capabilities at Marine Corps Bases worldwide. Tellabs was selected because its OLAN solution meets the technical requirements of fully-integrated UC capabilities for the Marines and other DoD organizations.

We are honored to support the US Marines as they improve warfighter readiness by continuing to deploy the Tellabs network solution that reduces their security vulnerability points, provides software defined technology, converges communication across a fiber-based network and provides the lowest total cost of ownership to the agency,” said Jim Norrod, CEO of Tellabs.

The MCAS Cherry Point project is the most recent deployment of Tellabs OLAN as the Marine Corps continues to modernize and upgrade their bases and stations. Other Tellabs OLAN projects for the Marines include network C4I upgrades at MCB Camp Butler Okinawa, MCAS Iwakuni, MCAS Yuma, MCB Camp Pendleton, MCRD San Diego, MCACC 29 Palms, MCLB Barstow, MCAF Quantico, MCAS Beaufort, MCLB Albany and MCB Camp Lejeune.
